Machu Picchu Tickets 2027: When Do They Go on Sale?

Updated: October 26, 2026

Short answer: not yet. As of today, Peru's Ministry of Culture has not announced the date when Machu Picchu tickets for 2027 will go on sale. On TuBoleto, the official platform, you can only buy tickets for dates up to December 31, 2026.

If you see a website already "selling" 2027 tickets as if they were issued, be careful: the most anyone can offer you today is to book your trip and buy your ticket as soon as official sales open. Here's what we know, what happened last year and what you can do now so you don't miss out.

What we know so far

  • There is no official date for the 2027 opening yet. The Ministry of Culture will announce it on gob.pe and through the Cusco culture office.
  • Tickets are sold only on TuBoleto (tuboleto.cultura.pe), plus a quota sold in person in Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes).
  • The system changed in September 2026. Since September 22, tickets can no longer be "held" without paying: you choose a date and time, you have 15 minutes to pay, and the ticket is issued in the visitor's name with their ID. This was done to stop people who blocked thousands of tickets to resell them (more in the bots scandal).
  • The Minister of Culture mentioned selling tickets up to a year in advance, but gave no date or details. Until an official rule is published, it's just an announcement.

What happened last year

For 2026 tickets, the Ministry opened sales on Monday, November 17, 2025, with little notice. The Inca Trail went first and, at noon the same day, Machu Picchu itself. The most popular dates (Easter, June with Inti Raymi, July and August) filled up very quickly.

There's no guarantee 2027 will follow the same calendar, but it leaves two lessons: the opening can be announced overnight, and whoever isn't watching that day loses the best dates and time slots.

Why they sell out so fast

Machu Picchu has a daily visitor cap. In 2026 it was 5,600 visitors in high season and 4,500 in low season, split into time slots and circuits. The mountains (Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain) have far fewer spots.

When a full year goes on sale, thousands of travelers and agencies log in at the same time for the same dates. That's why tickets for holidays, Easter and the dry season can sell out in minutes.

What you can do now

  1. Pick your date and a backup. If your first choice sells out, having a second day saves your trip.
  2. Have each traveler's details ready: full name, nationality and passport number exactly as shown on the document. On the day of your visit you must show that same original passport.
  3. Book your hotel now, especially if you're traveling at Easter or in high season: it doesn't depend on ticket sales and it fills up too.
  4. Decide if you want a mountain. Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain are bought together with the entrance ticket and are the first to sell out. We help you choose in Huayna Picchu vs Machu Picchu Mountain.
  5. Choose your circuit before sales open, so you don't lose minutes on the day. We explain them in Machu Picchu tickets and circuits.

Important: Machu Picchu tickets and train tickets cannot be changed to another date once purchased. Double-check the date and name before paying.

How we handle it for our travelers

When a traveler books Machu Picchu with us for 2027, we first secure what can already be booked, like the hotel, and stand by for the official opening. On the day sales open, we buy our travelers' tickets, starting with the busiest dates, and send them the confirmation with their entry time.

That way you don't have to keep checking the Ministry's website or fight for a spot at midnight.

If tickets sell out online

There is a fallback: the in-person ticket quota in Machu Picchu Pueblo, which sells tickets for the next day. In 2026 it was around 1,000 tickets a day, with lines starting before dawn. To use it you need to spend at least one night in Aguas Calientes, which is why on busy dates we recommend the 2 days 1 night or 3 days 2 nights tour instead of the Full Day. All the options are in Machu Picchu tickets sold out: what to do.

If you'd rather buy them yourself, here's how to buy on TuBoleto step by step. Traveling at Easter? See Machu Picchu at Easter 2027. Want to arrive on foot? Read Inca Trail 2027: when permits go on sale.

Frequently asked questions

Are Machu Picchu tickets for 2027 on sale yet?

No. As of October 26, 2026, the Ministry of Culture has not opened sales for 2027 or announced the date. TuBoleto only has dates up to December 31, 2026.

When did 2026 tickets go on sale?

On November 17, 2025. It's a useful reference, but the Ministry may choose a different date for 2027.

Can I book Machu Picchu 2027 with an agency?

Yes. A reliable agency can book your tour, hotel and services now and buy your ticket as soon as official sales open. What nobody can give you today is an already-issued 2027 ticket.

Can I change the date of my ticket after buying it?

No. Machu Picchu tickets cannot be moved to another date or transferred to another person, because they are issued in the visitor's name.
