About the tour
The best way to start your trip: in one afternoon you visit Qoricancha, the most important temple of the Inca empire, and the four archaeological sites around the city: Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. It's an easy tour, 1:00 to 6:00 pm, perfect for your first or second day while you acclimatize.
What you'll see
- Qoricancha: the Temple of the Sun, with flawless Inca walls beneath the Santo Domingo convent.
- Sacsayhuamán: the fortress of giant stones fitted without mortar, overlooking the whole city.
- Qenqo: a shrine carved into the rock, with passageways and a ceremonial altar.
- Puka Pukara: a checkpoint and rest stop on the Inca road.
- Tambomachay: the "Inca's bath", with water fountains that still flow.
Tips
- Buy the Cusco Tourist Ticket beforehand: you need it for the four sites outside the city.
- Bring a jacket: the temperature drops fast in the late afternoon.
